There are several organisations that set standards and protocols for issuers of carbon credits. These issuers are globally recognised registers that qualify and quantify carbon projects. The world’s most widely used voluntary emissions program is VERRA.

Gold Standard

Gold Standard for the Global Goals is designed to accelerate progress toward climate security and sustainable development. The standard enables initiatives to quantify, certify and maximize their impacts toward climate security and the Sustainable Development Goals, while enhanced safeguards, holistic project design, management of trade-offs and local stakeholder engagement ensure Gold Standard continues to deliver the highest levels of environmental and social integrity.

There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals in which each project is evaluated on its eligibility before it can claim it meets compliance.

REDD+

UN-REDD is the flagship UN knowledge and advisory partnership on forests and climate to reduce forest emissions and enhance forest carbon stocks. It is the largest international provider of REDD+ assistance, supporting its 65 partner countries to protect their forests and achieve their climate and sustainable development goals.

REDD+ is a climate change mitigation solution developed by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

REDD+ goes beyond simply deforestation and forest degradation and includes the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.

The framework is commonly referred to as the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ (WFR) adopted at COP 19 in Warsaw, December 2013, and provides the complete methodological and financing guidance for the implementation of REDD+ activities. REDD+ is also recognized in Article 5 of the Paris Agreement.

Carbonhalo only purchases tokens/credits that are verified and certified by leading agencies such as the ones mentioned here. This ensures funds are only going to those projects that meet all the requirements of the Verified Carbon Standard. To find out how carbonhalo works click here
